WHAT BABY SLEEP PATTERNS ARE ALL RIGHT AND WHICH ARE NOT?

Baby sleep patterns, sleep patterns for baby, changing baby sleep patterns, these are all phrases that scare most of the parents.


Many future  parents think with fear at the moment they will have to say goodbye to those relaxing nights after the baby arrives. But this is not a general rule and with some work and devotion from both parents, they will be able to enjoy their sleep even with the baby in the room.

Don’t think that there’s a gold rule, a hidden tip that some parents follow in order  to have quiet nights. No, it’s just a mix of some basic information every parent should know and some simple steps that have to be followed.

Basically, those baby sleep patterns do not apply to every age so it is best if we talk about them distinctively.

1. Newborn. This is the time your baby needs between 16 and 20 hours of

sleep daily. This baby sleeping pattern comes with short naps of two-four hours. At first, the  baby will sleep both during the day and night, but after he accommodates in, will start to sleep more in the night and you can come back to your old sleeping pattern, too.

2. 6 weeks. Now the baby sleeping pattern consists of 16-17 hours of sleep daily and two naps.

3. 4 months . The baby needs from 9 to 12 hours with two naps.

4. 6 months. The sleeping is reduced to only 11 or 12 hours of sleep that include two naps.

5. 9 months. The baby will sleep now about 11 hours including two naps.

6. One year. Happy Birthday. The baby has one year now and sleeps 10-11 hours with two naps of an hour or two.

7. Two years. The baby sleeps now approximately 12 hours a day with only one short nap in the afternoon.

8. Three years. Yupii. Our baby will sleep 10-11 hours daily with one nap.

Below are some useful tip that will help you better understand baby sleeping patterns at all ages. With a little devotion you will soon see changes in baby sleep patterns

Tips:

1. If you want to have more sleep, take advantage of those times during the day when your baby sleeps and get a nap if possible. You will feel less tired during the night when you will be woke up by the baby.

2. Don’t be too careful with your baby and cut out all the lights and sounds while she sleeps because she will get used this way and when you close a door or open a bag of chips she will wake up and you will have to start from the beginning again.

3. The baby wakes up hungry and requires either breastfeeding or formula every 2-3 hours in the first weeks of life. If you notice that she is not completely awake wake her up and keep her that way while feeding. This way she will sleep more in the night.

4. All babies love to be swayed so try doing this when you want her to sleep. Sometimes a simple back rub will do wonders with babies.

5. Try to make your baby to distinguish between day and night time. Be noisier during the day, put some music on, call someone etc. In the night time instead, walk slowly, whisper to him instead of speaking loud and hopefully the bay will be able to make the difference soon and sleep more in the night.

6. Play as much as you can with the baby. And as much as he can resist also :). This will make him tired and will take advantage of the night sleep.

7. When the bay is about nine months, try to put your baby to bed when she is awake because she will learn how to fall asleep by her own.

8. At the age of 1, child can tend to get more sleep then they need and they sleep less in the night, messing their sleeping pattern. This is the moment you can gently wake him up and get him used to sleeping less.
