The Shifman mattress co has its debut in 1893 and has a nice start, manufacturing quality bedding in their Newark, New Jersey factory.


After the World War II, things were heading on the wrong path because the company was selling the same mattress as it did in its first years.

Customers were now seeking for better looking mattresses and for a company that was willing to market it’s product in mass media: radio, TV, newspaper, whatever. While others company followed the trends, manufacturing cheaper and more appealing  mattresses, the Shifman mattress company kept on producing their well known shifman mattresses, without improving the design or the product line and the sales were based word-of-mouth advertising.

Yes, they kept on selling their mattress but they were unable to get more clients so they stagnated instead of expanding their business.

Michael Hammer, a businessman that worked in the bedding industry for more than 22 years saw the enormous potential of the shifman mattress and started searching more about the company and its manufacturing process. As an expert who worked with big names such as Seally, Simmons, Stearns and Foster, he knew that if a bedding company wants to survive, has to keep up with techno so it’s able to design the same quality mattresses at higher standards.

His next step was to buy the Shifman mattress co, promising that he will deliver the same high quality mattresses but using modern technology that allows him to get the best out of each material he uses. The mattress is still handmade but the difference appears in the manufacturing process: modern technologies, quality materials and fabrics and they also expanded their product line.

Nowodays, the Shifman mattress co continues the legacy of the two brothers that created it and delivers great quality, supportive and comfortable mattresses for their clients.
