Just try this shut down the rooms light, close your eyes for some mintues, now just read something boring in a ipad or iPod without putting on the rooms light, it makes your eyes hard to open and you will go sleepy as the cornea of eye open wide and with sudden light change,it goes heavy.

  8. GaryF

I am a terrible sleeper, when things get bad the relax from the toes up helps. Another tip, try reverse psychology on yourself, see how long you can keep your eyes OPEN without blinking. This makes your eyes really tired, it clears your mind and when you do close them you feel so grateful and off you drift.

Good luck sleeping to all the night owls out there.

  9. MoonBear

Check to see if you have outside lighting that seeps into your bedroom. If all the drapes are closed and it still filters through, buy a cotton or soft Polar(c) tuque that you can wear down to the tip of your nose, keeping your nostrills clear so you can breathe easily. This is also an excellent way to tone down high pitched sounds that can keep you awake.
Works very well in a cool bedroom; keeps your head warm, too!

I cant get anxieties or problems out of my mind. Whilst my mind is churning it keeps me awake. I have devised a method which helps most of the time but takes a lot of effort at first. You have to blank your mind out. Push all things out of mind and think of nothing. To help do this, with your eyes closed look upwards. You will find a comfortable looking up position. Its not too far up. Then look for a spot in the darkness behind your closed eyes. If you can see slowly blossoming white lights then concentrate on one and watch it. Otherwise just look into a spot.Slow your breathing down very shallow.
Many times you will find your mind grabbing onto your old anxieties worries etc. Just persevere and once more push everything out of your mind.
I often am able to fall asleep like this.

  11. Latha

Play a word game like Crosswords, Text Twist, or Scrabble in bed. Making your brain work hard with words is bound to produce enough tiredness to make you feel sleepy.

  12. Ina

What works really well for me is to open the window even when its just a crack because for me its really nice to lay down in a toasty bed while being surrounded by fresh, cold air. I told my friend about this and she said she tried it and that it had worked amazingly.
What also works for me is to have part of my lower body exsposed to air. It also helps if you have a water bottle near you. At night I Always drink some water and think about the water washing all my worries away. My friend told me that if she is ever stressed, she writes down all her worries down on a piece of paper, folds It up and puts it on the other side of the room to be dealt with in the morning. What also works is to have a clean room. When you have a messy room, you know your going to hAve to clean it up at one point or another plus if your still a kid, your parents might actually reward you for keeping your room all tidy. Hope this helps! Im only twelve years old, I’m lying down in bed, on my I touch, and it’s about 12:35 a.m. I’m trying to fall alseep but can’t so I decided to go on safari and and search “ways to fall asleep faster”. I clicked on the first thing I saw and it didnt help at all. Then I clicked on this and it helped soooooo much more. Thanks for the help!!!!!

  13. cathryne

there are some good tips here. actually i work in a medical sleep facility and, though there is no sure fire way to quicken the sleeping process, other then drug/medications, i have found over time that people tend to spend their time trying to concentrate on one thing, forcing there mind away from its natural process. i would suggest that, if you have trouble sleeping, you should try allowing your mind to go where it wishes, no matter how ‘silly’ your thoughts seem, they are simply precursors to your dreams.

this is just from my own working experience and it will not work for everyone, but give it a go if it seems good for you.

  14. Beth

I find that listening to the ‘tick-tock’ on my clock helps me fall asleep quite fast. Or having two clocks making noise at different times also works because you try to figure out which is which and it ends up relaxing you.

  15. Adnan Hussain

    IMPORTANT!!!
    IMPORTANT!!!
    IMPORTANT!!!

Avoid keeping your head under the covers or staying hot. The hotter you are the faster your heart rate, you want to be sure that your heart is beating at a relaxed and consistent speed. To do this make sure you keep yourself warm and not too hot nor too cold. Take long deep breaths (not too long) to keep yourself in a relaxed state of mind.

    HOPE THIS HELPS!!!

  17. Rowena

the method i use for sleeping is count numbers from back.
and if that doesn’t work then you have to start counting from 1000..probably the time you reach to 800 u definitely feel sleepy..
And this is a very important thing..u shouldn’t open your eyes and stare at things in your room..think of something you are bored at and imagine that you get up and do that thing, for eg.study!
these points will definitely help u.
And one more thing …You should be clean.(your bed sheet, your clothes your body).
    have a happy dream!!

  18. Kyle

Try to lay Perfectly still and try and stay awake I Assure you you will fall asleep when you don’t want to.
I noticed this because I have recently been attempting to lucid dream (a dream you can control cause you know your dreaming) and one of the ways to cause this is to lay still until your body falls asleep but you are still conscious this entering your mind into. Dream state that you can remember and affect but whenever I try and do this I fall asleep right away but if I’m trying to go to sleep it will never come

  19. Ashley

thanks soo much! this helps, expecially closing your eyes slowly.

  20. jules

try a sleeping mask? I can’t go to sleep unless the room is pitch black and any light coming in from your windows, doorcrack, etc. might distract you even when your eyes are closed.

  21. Charles

The fastest and most comfortable way to fall asleep is to close your eyes and visualize yourself sleeping…Imagine your in your bed high on a cloud with soft pillows and a starry sky. However you do this make sure that you sense the way your sleepy self feels and looks while sleeping. Imagining yourself sleeping the way you would want to. This tricks the mind into doing such act…Remember to relax while you focus on yourself sleeping and enjoy a good nights rest…Sweet Dreams…: )

  22. Bella

I find it important to have a comfortable pillow. Sometimes I like big puffy pillows, and sometimes I like to have no pillows at all.

  23. Kay

I’m absolutely terrible with falling asleep, ESPECIALLY on Sunday nights.. I hate needing to set my alarm (it sounds like a Biohazard alarm), and I always seem to have more trouble falling asleep, knowing my awful alarm will be the first thing I hear in the morning.. I always sleep with my small fan on, because I love the sound and it’s something quiet I can focus on. ^_^ Great tips, most I agree with!

  24. Melissa

Ok don’t make fun of me but I like to pretend that I am on a romantic date with my bf. I pretty much make up my own dream until I fall asleep!

  25. Loui

Tip # 37 works in my case. I’m sensitive to noise while sleeping. So, in order to “neutralize” other sources of noise I always have a fan on. This unified, peaceful noise helps me to fall and stay asleep.

It is now 1:15 in the morning i have to get up at six, every night is the same story. I work all day, yes after the long day i come home tired but by bed time i seem to be so awake. All i can think about is the effect this is going to have on me in the morning i have tried streching, listening to music but it turns out anything going on around means i am focusing on something which wakes me up, so i have tried sleeping with ear plugs in pitch dark rooms but nothing seems to make me tired just more awake for ages i have had little to no sleep at night time can anyone help me?

  31. John smith

Try to only picture images in ur mind, no words/dialogue from ur head! Like you’re in or watching a movie but u can say anything. They can be memories, a story u make up, and so forth. Doing this without saying things in ur head can be difficult but keep trying and shut off ur thoughts. I feel like this puts you in the right direction for dreaming and for me, sometimes I turn up in a dream of the scene I was creating! Think happy images and you’ll have fun. Takes a lot of concentration but keep going even if you talk, sometimes the dialogue comes automatically without thinking (ur basically dreaming!).

  32. sammi

If you sleep with a pet, try to make yourself hear nothing but its breathing. My dog’s slow, rythmic breaths can often put me to sleep. *yawns* (see, it’s working) good night.

Also, if you have high cholesterol or a poor diet it WILL keep you up. I know you said candy but anything with bad cholesterol in it will keep you up. If you can, set up an appointment with a nutritionist. They will set up a meal plan and teach you healthy portions. Not only will this help you get healthier, but it will make you happier and help reduce stress. If you can’t afford a nutritionist you can go on the government’s website with the new pyramid replacing plate. They tell you how many of each table you should eat and even give you the opportunity to research healthy meals. Also, investing in a cookbook wouldn’t hurt either. They have plenty of cookbooks out there with a variety from gourmet to kid friendly recipes. Also, planning out your meal for the next day can keep stressful situations off your mind before bed. Now the next step is to practice what I preach -___-

  42. melissa

My grandma always tells me to tense up a body part at a time and say 3 times the body part you’re tensing up. Then after the 3 times you slowly release them and say what you’re releasing. You go from toes up. So you would go toes, feet, calves (not too hard though to prevent cramping), theighs, abs, chest, upper arm, lower arm, hands, fingers, mouth, eyes. Pretty much what this does is excersise and wear out your body and then relax it. Its also a good way to keep stressful thoughts from your mind. The trick is REALLY concentrating on each part you’re tensing up and make sure you’re either saying in your head or out loud (for example) “I am tensing my toes” and for the release, “I am releasing my toes”. This worked for me probably because grandma knows best. C: good luck guys!

  43. Sabrina

What I do is I think of a white fluid slowly seeping out of my body like out of my toes or something, and it relaxes me, I dunno if it’ll work for other people.

The best way to fall asleep is to listen to music. Try it

Relax every part of your body starting at your toes than feet than legs (etc.)
