Soft land your day before bedtime. A gentler time of the day vs active planning and doing.

Maintain a reasonably stable routine; regardless what time you start your sleep routine.

Yes, reading something dry or boring but useful as a routine can work.

    Sweet dreams.

It takes me between a half hour to 3 hours to get to sleep at night. I have tried EVERYTHING . Ill be really tired go to bed and my mind works like an over active memory movie channel. Ill think of past memories and watch them play out as if I’m watching a movie, ill stop it and focus on my breathing slowly and relax my body, but then another thought will enter my head and so on, till I fall asleep. My partner sleeps within minutes it’s so frustrating. I tried prescription sleeping pills years ago DON’T go there. I became addicted and got out of hand taking up to 10+ over the night. I got off them a yr ago and trying everything. Please anymore ideas? Anyone thinking of taking pills, don’t do it, it can ruin you. The things I did would make anyone cringe. HELP please

My body aches too much, the bones in my face hurt and my nose is blocked so I can’t breathe properly. If I breathe through my mouth my lips get dry. I’ve always been a light sleeper so I’ll make sure that the lights are off and the room is silent but still, it’s so hard to sleep.. Counting never works cause I’ll go on forever. Sometimes I read, eg. Wikipedia, on my phone and I can put it away easily whenever I know I’m ready to sleep but recently that’s not working either.. It gets worse as the night drags on as I start noticing all the little things that bothers me till it’s no longer little and I’ll have to fix them like the bed getting too warm, the room too cold, or my nails too long.. And being awake makes me hungry but hunger keeps me awake and its a viscous cycle that can’t be broken what am I gonna doooooo :'(

I’ve noticed, that although everyone goes AGAINST using electronic devices before bed, if I use my laptop for a while, my eyes become tired and I fall asleep much easier, and get more sleep (4-8 hours) than I usually do without the laptop (2-5 hours).

Something else that usually helps me is to have light static-like noise in the background (from a humidifier or a fan, for example). For some reason, it calms me down and helps me to fall asleep…

  25. anon

I can never get to sleep on a night unless i have my hair dryer blowing warm air on my face. This is odd but it really works. My younger sister and older brother also do it, i dont know if it just runs in the family but the noise is soothing and the warm breeze helps me relax. I always encourage my friends to do it, they find it a bit strange at first but then they understand why i do it.

Try getting a fan in your room that you can adjust the air flow to keep yourself and a comfortable temperature. I can’t sleep when it’s really hot either. The fan I have has 4 different setting, plus the noise it makes is calming, not annoying. The only sound I can sleep with, besides the fan, I need complete silence. Hope this helps!

    1. sleepawake

The idea is to try what works for you. You either try to keep quiet or making noise, so there is no contradiction.

As much as you’re going to hate to hear this, the only way he’s going to learn to sleep in his crib is if you lay down and let him cry it out. The first 2 or 3 times will be very upsetting to you, but I guarantee he’ll learn after a few times he will not get picked up and he’ll fall asleep. Trust me, I have 3 kids and 1 grandchild. Hang in there Mom

  45. Louis

I usually can’t fall asleep because I have a ear problem. It’s a screeching sound in my ear and because of that i can’t sleep well 🙁

If the screaching noise keeps you awake tell her to be quiet. Ha!
Seriously I have it too, tinitis and it doesn’t go away. It’s caused by damage to the inner ear from excessive exposure to loud noise. It’s no fun!

i can’t seem to get asleep, its really annoying because i cant wake up in the mornings and I’m always late therefore, always wasting half the day!I’m the sort of person who likes horror films and searches stuff on youtube to scare myself which doesn’t really help too much; I always think about scary things at night then can’t get it out of my head. Its so stressful when i wake up all moody and grumpy because i haven’t had enough sleep. I’ve tried watching films at night but they’re always sad ones so i start crying and can’t forget about sad and scary parts in the film. I imagine things sometimes like i see something in the corner of my eyes or i see something out the window and its driving me crazy. I’ve looked at almost every sleeping tips website i can find and still nothing that helps, I’ve tried almost every single one of these tips and they don’t seem to properly work. I’m always the last one to sleep and last to wake up as when i get to sleep I’m right into it as I’m a heavy sleeper( trust me if you attempted to wake me up even if it was hitting me with a pillow). Please i need help and soon i can’t get to sleep and I’m scared ill be late for my new school and get a bad reputation!! AHHHHHHHH

I am sorry you are having these problems Mia. Maybe you should just watch comedies at night, instead of seeing horror movies. Just reduce the amount of horror movies and sad/scary movies from your life for a while and see if it gets better. Try to do more outside activities so that you get tired at night. If you can, stop watching TV at night. Just read a positive magazine or do something that doesn’t need a TV or a PC. Hope this helps you!

I am always imagining scary things, too! I always picture a creepy grey alien-like creature crawling up the wall, or looking at me through the window, or on the florr staring up at me. . . This is what happens when you watch the mermaid document on Animal Planet!

well what sometimes worls for me is breathing in my nose, counting 1 in my head, breathing out through my mouth, counting 1 in my head. i do this all the way to 10 and back. if it doesnt work…. i just keep counting and breathing.

This one usually works for me. Try washing your bed cover because
having a warm and clean bed is so comfortable.
