Can you describe your symptoms in greater detail? How long has this been going on? How often do you get them? What makes them better or worse? Also, have you noticed any other symptoms that go along with this? Finally, I would like you to describe your typical diet and exercise from day to day, and if you can give me a list of your current medications including over the counter medications as well as herbals and any other supplements that would be helpful to give you a proper assessment of what is going on.

Usually I need music to fall asleep unless I have the security of another person in the room, sometimes I feel it’s fear that keeps me awake and others it’s just plain restlessness, if I have the tv on at a rather high volume it also helps, but I watch things like a Britney Spears or Gwen Stefani concert and these usually help me drift off too sleep, even listening to interviews help, with just the voices! On the odd occasion if I’m really desperate I’ll have a cup of tea before bed like suggested and it works for me, I sleep better with noise but light bothers me. Well hope I helped!

  28. Eloise

Want to go asleep but you can’t?

Well, what I do is either one of these.

If you have a wall which has patterns on, try and make pictures out of the patterns. Trust me, after a few pictures, you’ll fall asleep. Well, I do.

    2.
Read a GOOD book. Not a boring one -.- The better the story get’s, the further you want to read. Read further and further then think, ‘I’m going to have a break. And I’m not going to fall asleep.’
Then you’ll fall asleep half way through your break.

    HOPE THIS HELPED!:)

  29. Ryan3030

I believe it’s a question of belief. Whatever you believe will not work, is self defeating. On the flip side I’ve heard that prescription drugs actually don’t give you the deeper sleep we all need. Not sure if it’s true or not but, relying on precription drugs for minor and even some major health problems is not good. They can cause other health issues. As a person who has trouble falling a sleep, I’m glad I stumbled upon this page. Thank you for the advice and I will deffinitly give these tips a try.

  30. Lauren

I find the best way is to lie on your back. Starting with your feet/toes tense it all quite hard then after five seconds relax. Moving upwards to the calf then thigh then stomach then neck then arms then even grit your teeth. Relax for a second then tense all the muscles you can In your body for as long as you can. Slowly release then find a comfy position then relax.

  31. Jaimee

Hello readers these examples sometimes make you sleepy but not a sleep so if you feel like you want to sleep just sit down and watch tv and maybe watch some movies not scary movies just your favs not anything like barbie or anything like that your choose of a movie thanx for reading. Love ya

  32. Clarissa Risner

Clear your mind, only think about how great it would be to fall asleep and have a great night then waking up in the morning without feeling tired.

  33. Todd

    1. genevive

Psalm 4:8 “I will lie down and sleep in peace, for you alone, O Lord, make me dwell in safety.”

  34. Lauren

Imagine you are laying on the beach.you have a cold drink by your side. And you can hear the waves collapsing your very relaxed.

  35. Annie

What I do is try to write in my head. Just think of a simple scenario, such as a cat walking across a field. Then write that scene in your head, and try to picture it too.
I get anxious if I can’t sleep, and when my mind drifts it usually drifts to panicked thoughts of “I will lie here forever and not fall asleep” which just rile me up and awake me.
If you’re anything like me and panic like that, it’s good to try and distract yourself. Like it says above repeating the lines to a song help. Or reciting a book or recalling the plot of a movie.

Another thing before I do when I lie in bed on a sleepless night is say in my mind “I will just relax here until morning comes and it’s okay if I don’t fall asleep.”
I often find when I tell myself I don’t need to fall asleep, I stress out less.

  36. Sandra
